Home... Safe and Sound!
At about 10:00am this morning the snow began to clear a bit so I packed Spencer and up from our overnight stay at the hotel. We packed up the Jeep and off we adventured towards Calgary. We arrived at the airport in Calgary about 12:30pm after witnessing 60... yes 60 vehicles (I counted!) in the ditch between Claresholm and Calgary. Mostly cars, the odd pick up truck and a handful of jack-knifed transports. We even saw a transport that had tipped on its side in the ditch at the base of bridge.
We picked up Christie and Mark at the the airport and then went to eat lunch. At about 2:00pm we left Calgary. The winds were high and they whipped up the snow all around us. We had maybe one spot of white out just before getting to Fort MacLeod. The snow on Highway 3 going into the Pass was a little more caked to the road then on Highway 2 down from Calgary so we took our time. We finally arrived home at 5:30pm in BC. Safe and sound.

Stranded!
Spencer and I have made it as far as Claresholm, AB. It is snowing SO hard right now and there are SO many accidents between here and Calgary that they have closed the road. The visibility was nasty so I pulled off the road in Claresholm at the Tim Hortons to figure out our next step. I figured there was no point getting stranded in the middle of no where. After much contemplation and talking to lots of fellow travelers in the Timmies, we decided that this would be where we would stay. We have rented a room at the local Motel 6 to wait out the storm. I sure hope that things clear up. There is some talk of them canceling numerous flights to Calgary as it is. Should be interesting to see when the storm subsides and when we can go on to Calgary. Please pray that everything settles down tonight, the roads get cleared and we can make it safely to Calgary and home again.
Calgary... here we come!
Spencer and I off to Calgary this morning to stay there. Christie and Mark are flying in early tomorrow morning and it's just so much easier to stay there the night instead of having to drive in the middle of the night.
Off we go. We leave within the hour!

This Week.....
It's been a busy week....
Spencer's been playing with the big dump truck a lot.... notice the bed head!
He's been helping out with some of lunch time prep.... he's been asking for "tuna noodle" for lunch everyday this week..... One of his favs right now!!!
My broccoli monster! Loves the stuff! Weird eh?
And this is why I don't just have markers just lying around! Grrr...... Thank goodness Mommy only buys washable ones!
My friend Wanda gave me a Dora version of the Candyland game and Spencer and I played 3 games of it last night together; Daddy was working nights. He won 2 games out of three!
We had another 6-8 inches of snow fall again last night so Spencer went outside to play for about 30 mins. I love his new snowsuit and hat!

One Spooktacular Week
On Wednesday, Sp had "Orange & Black" day at school. So I dressed him up in the only orange thing I could find in all of his clothes... who would have thought it would have been so hard to find an orange piece of clothing in a little boy's dresser!?
I had signed up to send a treat that day to his pre-school class as they were having a little party. I made up little packages of goodies for each one of his classmates, just some fun candies, for him to take. I also managed to make some mini chocolate cupcakes and decorated them as pumpkins and red eyed mummies and let me tell ya... they were the tackiest thing going! I didn't even bather taking a photo of them but the kids LOVED them!
After pre-school Sp's best buddy Mr. J came over to play. They are the best of friends those two! Two peas in a pod... even their teachers say so! The two of them decided to build a fort in the living room using my couch cushions.
Later that night, we grabbed the two pumpkins I had bought downtown and got to actually carving them. Spencer LOVED helped taking the "brains" out of his jack o'lantern. I think half the brains were in his hair and on his face when we were done! YUCK!
Daddy and Sp worked on their pumpkin together while I carved mine. You'll have to wait for more pictures of the finished pumpkins later this weekend.
Sp wanted to try out the top of his pumpkin as a hat.... see... he has "brains" all over his his face! LOL!
The weather has been gradually warming up here the last few days but the deer have been sticking around in all the underbrush where the snow isn't necessarily there. These 5 deer (there's one new fawn unseen in the photo off to the left hand side) took a rest in the gully behind the house. The little ones are so cute with their new winter coats!
The elk have begun their migration down out of the mountain terrain to the lower valleys too. With deeper snow up in the mountainous areas, they're having to come down to the valleys to feed. They LOVE the grass on the golf course here in town and there are sometimes hundreds of them sprawled out among the snow covered sand traps and driving range downtown. They jump the fence around the course like it was nothing to it!
On Thursday, Sp had his Halloween dress up day for pre-school. They went trick or treating in the mall (just across the parking lot from the pre-school). We found him this cute little pirate costume in Pincher Creek a week or so ago. Mommy decided he needed a scruffy mustache, a fake stitched cut on his forehead and a furry go-T to go with his outfit! The costume is a little big but with the weather like it's been here, cold & snowy, we may have to layer him up to go trick or treating tonight any way... a little extra room won't hurt at all! He'll be a "pudgy pirate" tonight!
I also got a great phone call today! My sister and her fiance are coming out for a quick visit the first week of December. Sp misses them both and it will be fun to spend some time with my sis before Christmas. It's sometimes lonely on the holidays with no family close by to visit with. Maybe we'll celebrate an early Israels' Christmas while they are here!

One Foot Deep!
When I looked out the window of the house at 11am it was overcast but still bright and brown & green outside.
At 4pm, we now have a FOOT of snow!
Spencer went off to pre-school and then came home and while Daddy was sleeping for night shift tonight, we went outside together to build a Frosty.
Apparently, Spencer REALLY licks him....
Is this another version of an Eskimo kiss? I'm not quite sure!

Sick as a Turkey....
I have caught a rather nasty cold and I'm down and out. We're stilling going to have turkey today but just the basics... no yummy dressing! Just turkey, gravy, potatoes and squash.

Brrr!!!!
I think we have officially skipped fall here in Elkford! I literally had to SHOVEL this morning to get off the deck. We got about 4-5 inches of the fluffy stuff and it was -14 when I looked at the digital thermometer when I got up. Brrrr! I'm NOT ready for this yet! We had such a MILD winter here last year... we were spoiled!
I had to work this morning and the roads were SLIPPERY! I don't think I drove over 30km/hr going down to work this morning. You could see a few people had HIT some of the barriers along the side of the road going down the hill this morning. NOT fun!
We have no specific plans for the holidays this weekend. Todd works tonight and tomorrow night and then he's off for his regular 4 days. The only thing we HAVE to do is get poor Spencer a new winter coat and boots. It's supposed to warm up (*fingers crossed*) on Sunday so we'll probably go to Lethbridge for those items.

What Happened to Fall?
This is what we woke up to this morning.....
SN*W!!!!!!! Yup... the first official snow to hit the lawn.
We had some snow the last day that Mom and Dad were here in September but it was only on the highest peaks in the valley. We didn't actually have it fall in the valley.
Brrrr! I was hoping for a warm fall! So much for that!

First Day of School
Today was Spencer's first official day of pre-school here in Elkford. I made sure that I took lots of photos... and I do mean LOTS! This little critter is hard to capture sometimes!

He managed to have a great time. One of the first things he asked as we were walking down the staircase from class was when was he coming back! So far so good!
